Sungei Buloh

We kicked start the week by going on a trip to Sungei Buloh Wetland Park, a place that I haven't been to in a long long time. I was pretty excited to be going there, since I was gearing up to get some good pictures of nice colourful birds getting scorched by the burning sun.

After contemplating our mode of transport, we finally concurred that it would be best if we took a cab there, since it's not all that far from Woodlands. Not a bad choice, considering the bloody solitary bus that goes there only does so on Sundays and public holidays. Can't really blame the bus-tards, considering the place is really damn ulu.

So after a nice comfy ride in the cab, we arrived at Sungei Buloh!

This is us just before we embarked on the trail, still happy and feeling in the mood for some fun and adventure. Stevie Wonder's even got her shades out and all!

Of course, we also h
eeded the advice of the more experienced Bulohians, and rubbed insect repellant on our arms, legs and neck.

As such, we began our search for weird-looking birds and other miscellaneous inhabitants of this nice, tranquil reserve.

The first interesting animal we chanced upon was not a bird, a plane, nor Superman's grandmother. It was a bloody big monitor lizard.

Basically it kept swimming toward then away from us, so I couldn't really get a good shot, but I
did what I could, and due to my natural inclination toward excellent photographs, managed to salvage the situation even with my meagre Sony camera.

Using this same innate talent of mine, I managed to capture in a split second an alligator / crocodile diving into the depths of the muddy shitty-smelling swamp.

I think National Geographic should be contacting me in the next week or so about the photos. I'll just have to reject them if better offers come along.

We finally ma
naged to pull ourselves away from the majesty of lizards and small specimen of buaya, and stepped onto the gravel trail.

Lizzie spotted a kingfisher, which was way too quick for the camera to capture, so I'll just have to let that photo finish go unexhibited. Honestly, that was probably the only decent bird we spotted the whole afternoon.

We did manage to see a nice little furry friend, what some people might call a squirrel, and lots and lots of the recently made-famous-by-disease-pests, mosquitos. In fact, it was so bad that Lizzie couldn't stop scratching till the bites started bruising. This is probably one of those few times whereby I can still feel the bloody mozzies swarming around me even as I prepare myself for bed. There would be 2 or 3 on my leg, and while I was aiming to take their puny lives away, another 2 would land on my hand and start sucking on me. Ok, on my blood. (BTW, I have to say that my darling has this uncanny ability to unknowingly lace her words with sexual connotations. Rather amazing.) I bloody hate mozzies. And since Aussies rhyme with mozzies, I shall aim to kill a few families of those as well.

A few hundred meters later, we were peering down at the muddy banks, and sighted one of the fattest mudskippers I've ever seen in my life. Description: fat, lazy, scared, bad skin, ugly, very likely smelly as well - just like the fat dude from Eric Khoo's Be With Me. Bloody disgusting. Just for the record I would never own one as a pet, so if any of you was thinking of buying me a mudskipper for Christmas or any other occasion, thanks but no thanks.

So, after messing around for a bit with the mozzies and Lizzie taking weird photos of funny plants, we were tired out from all the walking and battling with the mozzies, and had to make our way out of there. Unfortunately, as mentioned before, we had to walk all the way out to the bus stop, which would have taken about 20 mins or more, had a kind dude with a lorry not given us a lift. So to the dude, I express my thanks.

Next up, I aim to conquer Bukit Timah Hill on blades, once I learn how to blade. That should be interesting... Thanks for a wonderful day baby!
